Tuwanek Spit

Tuwanek is a small community at the end of the road on the east side of Sechelt Inlet.  The Tuwanek Spit has beautiful views of Sechelt Inlet and is a great place to launch your kayak or canoe.  We often set sail from here in the kayak to visit the various marine parks to the north of Tuwanek and Piper Point Marine Park, almost straight across the inlet.  Tuwanek Spit is also a popular place to dive with a fairly sheltered bay to the left of the spit and the Lamb Islets to the right.

Incidentally, the name Tuwanek comes from the Tahw-ahn-kwuh people who lived at the head of Narrows Inlet. They were one of four groups that formed the shíshálh (Sechelt) First Nation.
